Reputed Author, activist, organizer and humanitarian Dr Rita Chowdhury had been serving Cotton College, a historical centre of excellence in Guwahati, Assam till her appointment as the Director of National Book Trust, India in New Delhi on 16th of July, 2015.
Presently she has been holding the prestigious post and with her sheer hard work and dedication, she has been able to lead NBT, India with great achievement and vigour.

NEW DELHI WORLD BOOK FAIR:
The New Delhi World Book Fair is India’s oldest book fair. The first New Delhi World Book Fair was held from March 18 to April 4, 1972. This annual event is organized by the National Book Trust(NBT), India at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The 24th New Delhi World Book Fair was held during January 9-17, 2016 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi with China as the Guest of Honour Country. The theme of the 2016 edition was cultural diversity ‘Vivid Bharat – Diverse India’. The message of the Sino-Indo partnership for the New Delhi Book Book Fair 2016 was the connecting rainbow -“Renaissance of Civilizations- Understanding through exchanges”.The Union HRD Minister Smt Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated the fair.
As Director of NBT, Dr Rita Chowdhury has shown her tremendous capacity and hard work in organizing the international literary Mega event in the country’s Capital.

DEHRADUN BOOK FAIR:
The Dehradun Book Fair, organized by the National Book Trust (NBT), was inaugurated by the Uttarakhand governor, K K Paul, at the Parade Ground on 12th of September, 2015. Eminent author Leeladhar Jagoodi as well as Dr. Rita Chowdhury, director, NBT, were also present on the occasion. The Fair ended on 20th of September.
